Plymouth Area News for the week of Jan 22nd, 2018 by Joyce Steiner

John Phillips was at the auction at Sullivan and Son on Friday morning.  He passed away Friday night.  Our sympathy to his family and friends.  John and Mary Ruth attend Living Faith United Methodist Church in Bowen and visitation will be there on Friday evening and the services will be there on Saturday morning with Pastor Sheri Renner officiating.
Well the temperatures have finally moderated.  Monday evening the low was supposed to be 0 but my weather station recorded -6 ugh.
With it being so cold, hope all of you are putting out extra food and water for the wild life.  A possum checks out my back porch to see if I have left out any kitty food and the heated water bowl in the old garage has had a coon playing in it as there is dirt in the water.  Guess they need a drink too-just wish they did not have to muddy the water so that I have to change it every day.
People finally got out on Wednesday as I had 4 at the store but they were just getting out of the house.  However had customers at the store on Thursday and Friday.  Thanks to all who came in and shopped.  A gentleman was referred to my store by someone who told him I carried Aladdin Lamps.  He bought two and promised to be back.  Surely hope he does return as I have a good selection of Aladdin lamps and lamp parts too.
We had seven for Bible study on Thursday morning.  Both Pat Phelps and Mary Ruth Phillips brought cookies so put some in the freezer for next month.  Thank you ladies.  We will pick up Bible study again on Thursday, February 15th at 9:30 am.
Friday and Saturday found me and many others at Sullivan and Son for a very large and interesting auction.  Bought three quilts for the store, several pieces of furniture, books and more.  Was a fun two days.
Since the temperature was better, I went to Quincy after church on Sunday.  Found Kevin and Marsha Avis at the Golden Corral where we enjoyed lunch together.  Shopped a couple of stores and visited with Paul and Jane Moody.  Paul and I taught at Central at the same time.  They give programs on one room schools and are looking for a globe which lowers from the ceiling on a pulley system.  They said the only place they have seen them is in Iowa schools but they had found them in an old supply catalog.  If you know about one for sale, let me know and I can contact them.  Nice people.
Gave you a couple of recipes last week so will give one this week.  It is surprisingly good.
I brown a pound of ground turkey with one chopped onion in a bit of olive oil.  Add a jar of medium salsa, a packet of taco seasoning, a can of refried beans and stir until combined.  Place the mixture in a baking dish and bake at 350 for about 25 minutes then top with cheese either sliced or grated, I use sharp cheddar, and bake for another 5 minutes or until melted and bubbly.  Scoop up the meat mixture with cheese flavored nacho tortilla chips.  This is just really yummy!  One can make a pretty healthy meal of this.
Have a good week.  Scatter Kindness.  Pray for our country and for your neighbors.
