Plymouth Area News for the week of December 2nd, 2019, by Joyce Steiner

Our communities lost a long time resident on November 29th.  Dale William Bruenger had lived in our area all his life and leaves a large family as his legacy.  Our sympathy to his family and friends.

The Plymouth American Legion will be sponsoring a soup, sandwich and dessert supper on Saturday, December 7th from 4-7pm at the Legion building on the west side of the Plymouth Square.  The cost is a free will donation.  Carry outs will also be available.

Attended the Prophecy Show at the Legacy Theater on Saturday night.  It was great. The Prophecy Show is in the style of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.  If that does not mean a lot to you, the program states that “ the Prophecy has spared no details when it comes to costumes, choreography, music, lasers and fog to perform the Trans-Siberian Orchestra’s magical Christmas music”.  It was a very high energy program during which no breaks were taken and I have not idea how the performers kept up that rate of entertainment for over 90 minutes.  The costumes were very interesting, all black and striking.  I followed the performers down a hall and was interested in the ‘tails” of the men’s costumes.  The tails were long, curved on the outside ending in a point and split up the center.  I must admit that they looked a bit like a tall, thin praying mantis.  The music was just superb!  It really is wonderful to have a local theater bringing in such high quality shows.

I encourage each of you to get your flu shot.  Statistics show that it is a good idea.  The flu season is to begin early this year.  I got mine at HyVee in Macomb on Monday and with my insurance it was free.  Even got a 20 cent fuel saver for getting the shot.

Tuesday night was partially spent in my basement.  After watching the “weather” on Channel 10 where we were told that all storms were falling apart and that the threat of severe storms should be over, I went upstairs to read and sleep.  My weather radio almost promptly went off.  It indicated storms both north and south of Plymouth and then storms which included Plymouth.  I have a small hand held Midland weather radio which I take to the basement with me.  It is much better than my phone because it is from NOAA and gives constant updates about severe weather.  Have an extra for sale at the antique store if anyone needs one.  Anyway after about 45 minutes, the storms passed and all was well again.  Have I mentioned just how much I dislike storms.

Took Prince Harry to the doctor as I was concerned about some of his behavior.  Blood tests indicated that he was actually quite healthy.  He is currently sitting beside me complaining just a bit.

Thursday was Thanksgiving.  Hope you enjoyed the holiday with your family.  If you do not have family, hope someone invited you to share or that you found someplace to go to share with others.  Noted that the Salvation Army in Quincy served about 500 people on Thanksgiving.  It is good to set aside a day to give thanks to our God for all the blessings we enjoy even if sometimes we do not realize just how blessed we actually are.

I got my first Christmas card on Friday!  I have not even decided which photo I will use on mine as yet.

Saturday was “small business Saturday” and at 2:30 I thought it might be a “bust”.  Then several friends came in and saved the day.  Thank You!

Today there was a celebration of Pat Phelps musical ministry to our church.  Pat has played the piano and organ both at the Plymouth UMC and at Living Faith UMC for many years.  Many in her family came to help in the celebration.  Six of her grandchildren sang for the congregation accompanied by her daughter, Robin.  After services there was a pot luck held in her honor.  Thank you Pat for all the years of great music.  I know that she will find a new ministry.

Hope you had a good Thanksgiving.  Also hope that you enjoyed the week of Hallmark movies as much as I did.  Keep your neighbors in your prayers, remembering that all people everywhere are your neighbors.
