We Are Community for the week of April 4th, 2022, by Joyce Steiner

We Are Community 91

I am not good with early morning telephone calls.  At seven AM Monday, I received a call from a lady who had china cabinets which she wanted to sell.  Upon questioning, she was located in Plymouth Indiana.  A little far to go to buy furniture for the store.  At 1:30 AM this morning, I got a call wanting rooms.  Um…no!   Guess some people do not understand the difference between a B&B and a hotel.  My B&B is my home.  Afraid I probably will not get up and prepare beds and welcome guests at 1:30 in the morning-sorry.

There have been many reviews of “The Lost City” on TV.  Though I had not been to a movie since covid, I decided to go last Monday afternoon.  It was cute and Brad Pitt deserves an award for supporting actor.  If you go, do not leave when the credits start to roll as there is a short bit during the credits. There were also two “Walter the cat” commercials before the show.  As mentioned earlier, I think that the “Walter the Cat” commercials are just great!  Would you believe that they will show a movie for ONE person.

My smart phone has become very important to my life.  I, like so many people, resisted getting one.  I was forced to do so when I got my security system.  Now I don’t know how I ever got along without it.  I love being able to take photographs to share with friends.  I can show customers photos of items in the store and they can show me items they have for sale.  They can also send me photos of items to learn more about them.  The monthly cost of my smart phone is less that the cost for my flip phone was.  I was seriously hurt one time and drove myself to get help.  Since my phone is now always with me, I could call for help.   I am now learning to use that nice lady on the phone to get me to places I need to go.  She got me to Pittsfield for an auction yesterday.  If you are one of those vehemently opposed to change, you might just want to reconsider this one change. Have also gotten Square for my phone and can now take credit cards at the store, at home and at shows. I was in Hy-Vee on Monday and my phone slipped out of my pocket and was found on the floor.  Thank goodness it was returned to me before I knew it was missing.

If you live in the area, gas was 3.88 and 3.99 in Carthage this week.  That is cheaper than anywhere else I have seen it in our area.

Thursday had typical Illinois weather for spring.  It rained, snowed and sleeted all in one day.  Has been a pretty cold and dreary weather week which has made for few customers at the store.  That allowed me to close out the month and quarter book work and get my taxes figured for the store as they are due quarterly.

Think I have mentioned that I have a new kitty at as the neighbors moved.  Also have another kitty at the store for the same reason.  If you would be willing to give a kitty a loving home for its entire life time, please check with me.

As I mentioned, the nice lady in my phone got me to an auction in Pittsfield yesterday.  The auction had a lot of stoneware which brought out friends who also collect stoneware. Was a very interesting day.  I bought stoneware dogs and cats.  Cats are very rare.  Also got some things for the store.  Some of the prices paid were simply amazing!! The auction was also on line which is not always a good thing for the buyer because you cannot actually see and touch the item and may pay a lot for an item you do not know has damage.  Many auction houses are going to online only, a trend which I hope will soon reverse itself.

Spring is here. Many of my flowers are in full bloom.  Saw two magnolia trees blooming on my way to Pittsfield though mine has not started yet.  Enjoy spring.  The rebirth of nature, after winter, is one of the reasons I love where I live.

Pray for the people of Ukraine.
