We Are Community for the week of June 28th, 2021, by Joyce Steiner

Received word that Virginia Kendall had passed.  We lived less than a block from them when we moved to Plymouth.  Virginia moved to Carthage and I know she found more  happiness with her second husband.  Was very glad for her.  Our sympathy to her family and friends.

Always do the book work from a show the next day.  As I sell, I keep a running total.  Everything matched to the penny.  Now that is unusual.  I often comment that I like to do book work because I get to sit down.  It is especially rewarding when all the columns match.  You have to understand that people like me who love numbers are a little weird.

Tuesday was the longest day of the year.  It really was  long for a little animal which I found screaming  in one of my fish ponds.  Rescued him/her and it lived through the night and rested all the following day then disappeared.  Hope mom found the baby and took care of it.

The rain has been good for my garden.  The tomatoes are growing and one plant has two tomatoes on it.  Put cages around them this week so that as they grow taller, they will be confined.  Planted some egg plants which I told you the rabbits ate so planted more and they and the summer squash are doing well.  No beets again this year.  Think it was just too dry when they needed moisture to sprout.  Also the kitties may have had something to do with their lack of survival.

Got a call at 1:30 am on Thursday morning.  If you are wanting a room at the B&B, I can guarantee you that is not the time to call.  The lady told me about her fractured family and that  someone was flying into a city which started with an “M”.  She did not know if it was Minneapolis, Moline or she thought maybe Macomb.  When she said Macomb, I thought perhaps she did have the right state.  Originally thought she might be one of those people who thinks my B&B is in Massachusetts.  I kept saying it was 1:30 in the morning.  She told me she was on the internet and had found my number there.  I’m thinking that just because you found my number, does not mean you can call me at any time of the day.  Finally just told her good bye and hung up.

Had a really busy day at the store on Friday.  Thanks to everyone who came in and shopped.

The Plymouth Old Settler’s Committee had a matador supper on Saturday evening.  Not sure the word got out well as I did not see any advertisement for the event.  Hope it went well.  The food is always good and I enjoy talking with a group of ladies who always attend.

Got up at 5 am on Sunday and headed for White Hall.  Our stoneware collector club joined with the White Hall group for a stoneware swap meet at the Green Gables Inn in White Hall.  Was a great day.  So good to see stoneware friends again and to put people with names I connect with on the internet.  The grounds were lovely, the weather cooperated and we were housed in a lovely open pavilion.  They even fixed food for us.  Nice day.

Trying to learn how to use Google Maps on my phone for directions so turned it on for the trip home.  After I convinced the lady on Google maps that I did not want to go home through Jacksonville, she began cooperating with me.  She did not however tell me a there was a policeman following me.  That does not happen often but when it does, I think I am slow to pull over as I never think they are following me.  Did eventually pull over and he asked if I knew why he stopped me.  Actually I had no idea.  He asked if I had any recent violations and I have not.  Mentioned that I was exceeding the speed limit leaving Mt.  Sterling.  Sometimes the speed limit goes farther out of town than I think.  Anyway he was super nice.  Ran my information then just cautioned me to watch my speed a bit better and wished me a good day.  I am really glad we have officers on the roads trying to make them safer for everyone.  It is not a good time to be in law enforcement and I certainly support them.

Well I hope you got rain.  We have been so lucky in escaping the storms.  See so much storm damage in other places.  I have two step daughters in Oregon and the temperatures there were to reach 113 degrees today.  That is too warm.  Hope we don’t get those temperatures here.  Have a great week.  Enjoy the Nations birthday celebration on the 4th.  Scatter Kindness.
