We Are Community for the week of May 20th, 2024, by Joyce Steiner

We Are Community 203

Our sympathy to the family of Dean Janssen, 97, of Augusta who passed away on Thursday, May 16th.

Plymouth Old Settlers will be having a cook out on Saturday, May 25th at Rhodes Mini Mart in Plymouth from noon to 4 pm.  The menu will include rib eyes, hamburgers and hot dogs.  Come on out and enjoy a great sandwich and support the Old Settlers celebration this August.

There will be a Taste of Hancock County on June 8th from 11 am until 7 pm at the Hamilton City Park.  There will be food, live music and vendors from Hancock County.  Come and enjoy the fun and see what Hancock County has to offer.

Have at least three humming birds trying to work my feeder.  They are really good at chasing each other off the feeder.  Wish they would just share.  Put up an Aldi wren house as a kind of joke but a family of wrens is building a hap hazard nest and singing their little hearts out on the porch of my garage.  Have also had a large red headed woodpecker working my sun flower seed feeders.  Glad to see it.

Went to Macomb the day after Mother’s Day and got orchids for $3.19 at Aldi and a dozen long stem roses for $3.93 at Walmart.  Guess that was a good day to shop.

Spent a couple of days loading the van for 3rd Sunday Market.  Got there fine and set up reasonably quickly.  Shopped a bit then just sat and waited for the building to be closed Saturday evening.  Got up early Sunday and had a pretty good sales day.  After the show, things got even more interesting.  The young men who help us load had overbooked and my helper was not available when I was ready to load.  Dr. Raycraft himself came and loaded my table tops while waiting for a helper.  Found that I had broken my wedding ring when my finger started to hurt really badly.   Then just north east of Macomb about 6:30 pm pulled off the road to take photos of what certainly appeared to be a tornado.  It was high in the sky but certainly a funnel cloud.  Enough excitement for one day-maybe even several days!

Finally took time out to pull some rhubarb and make a rhubarb pie-one of my favorites.

As you can see, it has been a full weekend and I need to get some sleep.  Have a great week and scatter Kindness and Love to all this week and every week.
