We Are Community for the week of Feb 13th, 2023, by Joyce Steiner

We Are Community 137

The Plymouth Circle Community Center is a building which has housed the Presbyterian, Congregational and Methodists churches during its life time.  It is a very important building both for its history and for its use now as a community center.  It needs a new roof.  Where there used to be one leak, there are now multiple.  More information will be coming but we need to raise money for the roof.  If you would like to help, it would be greatly appreciated.  Checks may be sent to PCCC % Joyce Steiner, 201 W. Summer, Plymouth, IL 62367.

I will be giving a talk to the Hancock County Historic Society on Saturday evening.  The subject will be stoneware from potteries of Macomb, Colchester and Tennessee.  There will be examples of pottery from each factory along with some lunch hour pieces.  The meeting will be held at 7 pm at the former Senior Center in Carthage.  All are welcome and it would be interesting if you would also bring a piece of pottery from these factories or a piece that you might like to identify.

This week has Valentine’s Day in it.  This can be a wonderful day if there is someone special in your life to share love, chocolates and roses with.  Hope you have a great Valentine’s Day and that you have a special Valentine.  If not, do something special for yourself!

Was outside one evening this week and the stars were very bright.  We have had so many cloudy days that I really noticed.  There are several large planets visible in the western sky.  We have also had some sunny days of late.  The average low temperature has risen from 18 to 21 recently.  Many of my spring flowers are peeking through the old leaves.  Some geese are flying north and one of my friends said that she saw robins!  Can spring be far away?  Yea!

Watched the State of the Union Address by President Biden.  Was amazed at two of the “dresses” which the TV cameras showed.  In west central Illinois anything beyond jeans is news.  Find it interesting that there are people who show total disrespect for our President and for others for that matter.  If we are to survive as a free country, we must respect each other’s views and work together for the common good not just for our pet agenda.   God bless America!

Had two good days at the antique store this week.  It was really busy Saturday.  Had several young ladies who came in.  Was fun to help the next generation of collectors.  Thank You.

The Plymouth American Legion had a breakfast on Saturday morning.  There was a good attendance.  Mark Wickert won the 50/50 drawing.  The Legion is planning a soup supper soon.  More details later.

Today is Super Bowl Sunday.  A very important day to many-not so much to others.  I belong to several stoneware groups on face book.  One group featured photos of bowls for the day.  Great idea.  Of course, I had to contribute so put on a photo of a lovely sponged bowl from Macomb.  You probably will get to see it Saturday also.

Have a great week.  Hope you enjoyed the game and the commercials.  Hope your Valentine remembered you or at least that you had a great day.  Enjoy the spring days.  Scatter Valentines, kindness and love.
